Google Apps Chat Rooms

I came across this article about kids using Google apps to open chat rooms. These chats can be innocent most of the time. Social involvement is the most important thing to most teenagers. However, there are a lot of cases of bullying or other inappropriate uses taking place in these chats. These behaviors take place whether students have access to these apps or not. The educational benefits of Google apps shouldn't be outweighed by the misuse of a small percentage of students. However, it is best for teachers to be aware of the situation. I know some teachers have already come across this, so this isn't breaking news. If you suspect inappropriate behavior and are unsure what students are using, Google apps are a good place to check. Students can find time to do this outside of class, but as always, when students are working on their devices in class, it is best to be mobile and checking their screens.
