Nobody likes change, but it comes regardless. One of the changes nobody seems to like is that Microsoft will no longer support Windows 7 after January 14, 2020. In response, we have begun upgrading our computers to Windows 10. We are currently upgrading computers on a volunteer basis, but we plan to upgrade all computers that haven't been upgraded over Spring Break.
The migration should be a fairly painless process. Windows 10 is not all too different from Windows 7. All of the apps you currently have will work the same in Windows 10, but there are some steps we need to take to ensure you're ready for the big move.
Data
The good news is data you have saved in your H drive or in your Google Drive is safe, and does not need to be backed up or transferred. However, any data you have saved directly to your desktop is not backed up elsewhere. The easiest way to make sure you don't lose any data saved to your desktop is to move it to your H drive. Alternatively, you can upload it to your Google Drive.Bookmarks
All your Chrome bookmarks and data can be synced with Google servers simply by signing into your Google Chrome browser. You can do this by following the instructions here. Once you have done this all you have to do after the upgrade to Windows 10 is sign in to your Chrome browser again and all of your synced data will be downloaded to your browser from the Google server. Not only would this include your bookmarks, but your browsing history, saved passwords, installed extensions, and theme.
Fill Out the Form
Once you have completed the steps above you are ready to be upgraded to Windows 10. You can fill out a form here to let us know when you would like to have your computer upgraded. You can also use this form to advise us of any non-standard applications you need installed on your computer.Ask for Help if You Aren't Sure
If you need assistance getting ready for the upgrade to Windows 10, please do not hesitate to put in a ticket. We would like for this transition to go as smoothly as possible for everyone.
